John Edward 'Jed' York is the son of Marie Denise DeBartolo York and John York, and the nephew of former San Francisco 49ers owner Edward J. DeBartolo Jr. York became team president on December 28, 2008. In 2011, ESPN Columnist David Fleming referred to York as "kooky" and "goofy" when York declared that the 49ers would be in the Super Bowl. And then the 49ers did come within one game of backing up York's assertion, hosting the NFC Championship game against the New York Giants, eventually losing in overtime, 20-17. He is also the driving force behind making the concept of a new stadium a reality.

Previous assignments included stints in Western Samoa, Rome the Archdiocese of San Francisco, Boston, and as chaplain of the U.S. Navy since 1991.
